Commence freaking out - on Thursday night, A Tribe Called Quest announced (via Q-Tip) a new, final album being released on November 11th. This comes nearly a whole year after their performance on The Tonight Show (November 13th, the same night as the Paris terror attacks) and 18 years since their last studio album. According to Q-Tip's handwritten note, it was this show - their first on television in 18 years - that drove the desire to get back into the studio.
Despite the tragic loss of Phife Dawg this past March, it didn't deter any motivation to complete the album and finish what they'd started with Phife's influence. The New York natives - who formed Quest while attending the same Queens high school - didn't stray far from their city roots, getting "tribesmen" Busta Rhymes and Consequence (native to Brooklyn and Queens, respectively) on board to contribute. This new album promises "that pure, unstepped on pure." November can't come soon enough.
