7 Female Comedians to See in NYC

Much like music, comedy is another one of our favorite forms of therapy. Luckily for us, there's a plethora of great comedians out there in the New York scene and beyond, and we've compiled a list of 7 of our need-to-see female performers that have upcoming shows in the NYC area. Inventive improv, satirical stand up and candid confessionals are these ladies' forte. Go ahead, grab some tickets and get ready to laugh.

Tiffany Haddish

Tiffany Haddish recently made history by being the first black female comedian to host Saturday Night Live, but you might also recognize her from her co-starring role in the 2017 comedy Girls Trip. This breakout role boosted her into the limelight and exposed the masses to her hilarity on a grand scale. In August, Haddish released her comedy special “She Ready! From the Hood to Hollywood” which premiered on Showtime, but now you can catch her in New York during her run at Caroline’s on Broadway.

Liz Magee

This comedian is making a name for herself within the New York comedy scene and is currently the ringleader of the “All Female Reboot” show. Liz Magee and her co-comediennes give their own spin on over-hyped, male-led movies, like Fight Club, for a riotously funny show. Catch them this month at The Tank.

Iliza Shlesinger

Iliza Shlesinger got her start in the LA comedy scene performing at The Improv in Hollywood, and eventually went on to be 2008’s winner of NBC’s Last Comic Standing. She now hosts her own late night talk show on Freeform where she brings candidly hilarious takes on life and current events. She’s currently on tour doing nearby shows in Philly and New Haven, but if you’re not up for a road trip, make sure to watch her Netflix special “Confirmed Kills.”

Shalewa Sharpe

This New York comedian by way of Atlanta is performing shows in NYC all throughout the month of November! Shalewa Sharpe’s cutting wit and spot on delivery can be experienced fully through her comedy album Stay Eating Cookies which is available on iTunes and Spotify. Check her out sooner than later.

Bridget Everett

Comedian, actress, singer, writer, cabaret performer. These are just a few of the hats the outrageous Bridget Everett’s wears to bring her brand of over the top performance comedy to life. This self-described “alt-cabaret provocateur” will be performing at the Beacon Theater in December, so grab your tickets soon!

Mindy Raf

Returning from her triumphant solo tour, Mindy Raf is back in NYC to give you her own comical insights on sexuality, heartbreak and more. This actor, writer, musician extraordinaire has contributed to tons of our favorites like Girl Code and College Humor, and was invited to perform at the Women in Comedy Festival. This gal can get you giggling for sure.

Aparna Nancherla

Named one of Rolling Stone’s “50 Funniest People Right Now,” Aparna Nancherla is a New York based comedian whose work can be seen in projects like Inside Amy Schumer, Master of None, and Netflix’s Love. Lucky for us, she’ll be here all holiday season performing around Brooklyn and New York, so clear your schedule and get ready to laugh.
