Do New York Like David Bowie On His Birthday

Today would have been David Bowie's 71st birthday. In honor of the Starman's living legacy in New York City, we've compiled some ways to DoNYC like David Bowie from bookstores to murals, exhibitions and more - the spirit of Bowie is alive in the city streets.

David Bowie Memorial

When the Starman died, people gathered at the foot of the apartment building Bowie and his wife had inhabited since the late 90's. As soon as he passed, people were lined up for blocks, each person patiently waiting to pay their respects. Today, many of the beautiful tributes left have disappeared with snow, but this reminder to dance remains!

David Bowie Is... Exhibition

(Brooklyn Museum)

This incredible exhibition, which has made its way across the pond to inhabit the Brooklyn Museum, features an entire room dedicated to Bowie's best outfits, as well as a detailed look into the extravagant, elegant, and beautiful life and artistry of David Bowie. It will be on display March 2nd through July and you can get tickets here.

Visit Other Spots Bowie Loved

(NYTimes)

(via The NYTimes) The New York Times detailed - via Google Maps - many of the spots Bowie was known for frequenting when he was in New York. Many of them come as a surprise, as we stop at places like Strand and Dead & DeLuca as casually as Monday morning comes, but they hold a bit more meaning knowing Bowie, too, was there.

Flip Through Books Like Bowie

(via McNally site)

Pay homage to the legend at one of his favorite New York bookstores, McNally Jackson Books. The Starman frequented the bookstore so often, they once tweeted “We were lucky enough to occasionally get to sell books to David Bowie, who, in addition to being, you know, Bowie, was also a great reader."

Check Out An 180 Ft. Bowie Mural

(via Kobra)

Eduardo Kobra, known better as muralist and street artist extraordinaire - Kobra - graced Jersey City walls with this beautiful tribute to David Bowie at 837 Jersey Ave. The final piece, which stands at 180 feet tall, is a beautiful tribute to all things great about Bowie.

Listen To His Final Recordings

Released today, in honor of his birthday, you can finally listen to his last EP - recorded shortly before he passed. Do it.
